A Sion College Visit to the Franciscans in Plaistow

10:00 tea & coffee. Ends with midday prayer, followed by lunch at 1pm

Buses from Canning Town to Balaam Street Stop BJ): 5, 115, 300, 330 Then a short walk from the bus stop

Lunch at Efes Restaurant, 65 Barking Rd, London E16 4HB (near Canning Town)

Plaistow has changed substantially over the past seventy years, from a home for the white working-class to one of the most multi-ethnic and multi-faith areas of London, yet the ‘brown brothers’ remain very much part of the local scene. Working with the local charity, Helping Hands, they provide a place of welcome, hospitality and prayer in this interesting and vibrant place. The brothers will share something of their life and ethos in this visit to the house and area. We will join them in midday prayer and journey to a local Turkish restaurant for lunch (c. 20 minutes’ walk – no alcohol).

If you have not yet registered for online payment you will be asked to do this and your registration will need to be validated by the Administrator before you can use the facility. You will only need to register once, and for any applications for subsequent events you will need only to log in. Payment is taken by PayPal, but you do not need a PayPal account.

• Successful applicants will be sent further information by Wednesday 28th January, 2026
• Cancellations after Wednesday 4th February will not be refunded
• Attendees will be expected to honour any food choices submitted in advance
• It is Sion College policy that no events are recorded

Sion College events are often over-subscribed and each place is generously subsidised. If you are offered a place but are unable to attend for any reason, please let the office know so that your place may be offered to another. In the event of failure to attend without notice after being reserved a place, the Court will require a refund of the subsidy. Application for a place at any Sion event constitutes acceptance of this proviso.
