Reflections on Church and Throne
Wednesday 11th October, 2023, 7:00 for 7:30 pm
The Oriental Club, Stratford House, 11 Stratford Place, London W1C 1ES
Some of us may have visited Westminster Abbey at some point; and over the last couple of years many of us will have become more familiar with it as we have watched both the funeral of the Late Queen Elizabeth the Second and the Coronation of His Majesty the King. We will have marvelled at the splendour of the building and been moved by the dignity of the worship and the glory of its musical tradition. We will, perhaps, also have wondered about its daily ministry, its particular purpose and its relationship with the Sovereign and place in the life of the nation.
There can be few people whose overview and understanding of the role and life of the Abbey can match that of the Dean of Westminster, The Very Reverend David Hoyle. We are delighted that he has agreed to speak once more at a College event and reflect on the subject of Church and Throne which he will certainly do both profoundly and amusingly.
Please note that the Oriental Club has a “formal” dress code for dinner (jacket and tie or equivalent – incl clericals).
