A Sion College Seminar with Diarmaid MacCulloch

Lower than the Angels

Diarmaid MacCulloch is Professor of the History of the Church at Oxford University. In Lower than the Angels he shows Christians trying to make sense of themselves and of humanity’s deepest desires, fears and hopes. Among his previous books are Reformation: Europe's House Divided 1490-1700 and A History of Christianity (2010), which was adapted into a six-part BBC television series. He was knighted in 2012 and was awarded the Norton Medlicott Medal by the Historical Association in 2022.

Professor MacCulloch’s lecture will be followed by a wine and canapés reception with the chance to meet and chat with the speaker, at the Grosvenor Chapel in Mayfair.

Those attending this seminar reception have the opportunity to order copies of Lower than the Angels (PB) at the discounted price of £11.39 (RRP £18.99).

If you have not yet registered for online payment you will be asked to do this and your registration will need to be validated by the Administrator before you can use the facility. You will only need to register once, and for any applications for subsequent events you will need only to log in. Payment is taken by PayPal, but you do not need a PayPal account.

• Cancellations after Tuesday 4th November will not be refunded
• Attendees will be expected to honour any food choices submitted in advance
• It is Sion College policy that no events are recorded

Sion College events are often over-subscribed and each place is generously subsidised. If you are offered a place but are unable to attend for any reason, please let the office know so that your place may be offered to another. In the event of failure to attend without notice after being reserved a place, the Court will require a refund of the subsidy. Application for a place at any Sion event constitutes acceptance of this proviso.
