Sir David Manning GCMG, KCVO, formerly British Ambassador to the United States

Sir David Manning joined the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in 1972 and served in Warsaw, New Delhi, Paris and Moscow as well as London before becoming British Ambassador to Israel in 1995. Three years later he returned to London as Deputy Under Secretary of State for Defence & Intelligence, was the UK Permanent Representative at NATO and then Foreign Policy Adviser to the then Prime Minister. From 2003 until 2007 he served as Ambassador to the United States, since when he has held various public & non-executive appointments.

The College is very grateful to the Rector and Churchwardens of St Mary-le-Bow who have kindly agreed to host the evening at a time when Lambeth Palace is undergoing significant works during the Archbishop's sabbatical leave. Evening Prayer is at 5.30pm (paper orders of service are not used – please use the CW App).

The Lecture will begin at 6pm & will be followed by a Reception. The lecture will be given on the basis of the Chatham House rule under which participants are free to use the information received but the identity and affiliation of participants may not be revealed.

If you have not yet registered for online payment you will be asked to do this and your registration will need to be validated by the Administrator before you can use the facility. You will only need to register once, and for any applications for subsequent events you will need only to log in. Payment is taken by PayPal, but you do not need a PayPal account.

  • Successful applicants (Fellows/ Members) will be notified by Tuesday 22nd June, 2021
  • Cancellations notified after Monday 28th June, 2021 will not be refunded
  • Attendees will be expected to honour any food choices submitted in advance

Sion events are often over-subscribed and each place is generously subsidised. If you are offered a place but are unable to attend for any reason, please let the office know so that your place may be offered to another applicant. In the event of failure to attend without notice after being reserved a place, the Court will require a refund of the subsidy.  Application for a place at any Sion event constitutes acceptance of this proviso. Please note that the College does not permit recording of speaker events.
